His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, also known as Srila Prabhupada, was a prominent spiritual leader. He is the founder-acarya (spiritual master) of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), also known as the Hare Krishna movement, and the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust. Born Abhay Charan De in 1896 in Calcutta, India, he later adopted the name Bhaktivedanta Swami. Prabhupada is renowned for his role in spreading the teachings of the Bhagavad-gita and the philosophy of Bhakti Yoga (the path of loving devotion to God) to the Western world. In 1965, at the age of 69, he traveled to the United States and founded ISKCON in New York. Over the next eleven years, until his passing in 1977, he traveled extensively, establishing temples, writing books, and inspiring thousands of followers worldwide.
Prabhupada's translations and commentaries on ancient Vedic scriptures, including the Bhagavad-gita and the Srimad-Bhagavatam (Bhagavata Purana), have been highly influential within the Hare Krishna movement and in the broader spiritual community.
